UBP Nicosia Deputy Dr. Ahmet Savaşan emphasized in his message published on the occasion of July 20 Peace and Freedom Day that the Peace Operation carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces 48 years ago and the developments that took place afterwards saved the Turkish Cypriot people from living under threat and that the long-lasting Struggle for Existence was crowned with victory.

“Happy July 20 victory of the Turkish Cypriot people, which was won by the intervention of the heroic Turkish Armed Forces as a result of the long years of resistance,” said Ahmet Savaşan, “while celebrating this meaningful victory with enthusiasm, we are aware that as the young generations of the Turkish Cypriot people, we are obliged to crown this victory with new achievements of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Victories are not only celebrated; such great victories also impose on us the responsibility to perpetuate the gains brought by these victories. Each and every citizen of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus must act with the awareness of this responsibility and crown the victory of July 20th with new achievements. For my part, I am determined to make all kinds of sacrifices to crown this victory with new achievements, just like those who were instrumental in the birth of this victory and those who contributed to bring it to these days. As long as I live, I will remain loyal to the legacy left to us by our martyrs and veterans by working for the peace and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people.”.

Those who lived through 1974 ignored the danger of death.
Pointing out that the joy of July 20, 1974 Peace Operation and the struggle of those who experienced the Peace Operation on that day, ignoring the danger of death, is important in terms of showing how much such an operation was longed for, Savaşan stated that July 20 was a real liberation and pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot people gained their freedom and the island of Cyprus gained peace thanks to this operation.

At the end of his message, Savaşan said, “July 20 Peace and Freedom Day is our most important holiday symbolizing the historical struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people and the victory they achieved as a result; happy birthday to all of us. I commemorate with mercy our martyrs who brought us this great victory; I bow with respect in the presence of our heroic veterans.”.
